The 4 Nations Secure Code Warrior Tournaments are here!

The top ten finalists from each region will compete in the national UK Secure by Design Games!

The tournaments offer participants a chance to represent their region: Scotland, N. Ireland, Wales and England, allowing you to compete against the other participants in a series of vulnerable code challenges that ask you to identify a problem, locate insecure code or weakness, and or fix a vulnerability.

We have had to change the dates for some of the knockout stages - please check the new dates below.  

The dates for the knockout stage are (be sure to sign-up now to reserve your spot): 

5th October - England
NEW DATE: 26th October - Wales

NEW DATE: 9th November - Scotland & Northern Ireland

The date for the final is:

29 November - The Final

You don’t need extensive programming knowledge as this will be a great way to learn the foundations and intermediates of leveraging code that is not only functional but is also secure.

How does the tournament work?

All challenges are based on the OWASP Top 10, and players can choose to compete in their preferred software language, including Java EE, Java Spring, C# MVC, C# WebForms, Go, Ruby on Rails, Python Django & Flask, Scala Play, Node.JS, React, and both iOS and Android development languages.

Throughout the tournaments, players earn points and watch as they climb to the top of the leader board.

How long does the tournament last?

The tournament opens at 10:00 and finish at 22:00, Greenwich Mean Time.  It may only take a few hours to complete all the challenges. You can start at any time and jump in and out as you see fit.

How do I join the tournament?

  • Simply complete the form, select your region, and we will send information with the next steps and your training token to join

  • The tournament is run virtually so you can join through your laptop from the most convenient location and time.

  • The top 10 for each region will be announced once each knockout stage has finished by email.

  • The regional tournaments will be open from July 27th, entry to the tournament is free!

1 How to participate


1.1 In order to enter this competition, go to https://info.qa.com/scw-event and enter the information requested.
1.2 All entries must include your name, email address, region (either England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland). If you are the winner of the final, you'll need to provide a UK postal address (including postcode) for us to ship you your prize. 

1.3 Entry is on an individual basis. This is not a team-based competition.
1.4 Entries that do not comply with these terms and conditions will be void and will not be entered into this promotion.
1.5 Participation in the event is free.
1.6 You may only submit ONE entry to this competition. Entries over the maximum number of entries will be void and will not be entered into this promotion.
1.7 The competition is comprised of 2 stages: the knockout stages and the final.


2 Start date


The knockout stages will group participants by region (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland). The dates for each region are:
5th October 2022 – England
26th October 2022 – Wales
9th November 2022 – Scotland & Northern Ireland
29th November – Final
On each date, the contest will start at 10.00 BST (British Summer Time) and close at 22.00 BST on the same day.


3 Closing date


The closing date for competition entry will be 29th September at 00:00 BST. Entries received by the promoter after this time will be void and will not be entered into this promotion.


4 Selection of the finalists


4.1 The 10 top performers for each region in the knockout stages will be eligible to take part in the final. This will be decided on points.


5 Selection of the winner


5.1 The term “winner” refers only to the individual who scores the highest number of points during the final.
5.2 The knockout stages do not have a “winner”. The top 10 scoring individuals in each region will be offered a place in the final.


6 Prize


6.1 The prize is as follows: 1 x Secure Code Warrior Hoodie.
6.2 There is no alternative prize.
6.3 The prize is non-transferable and does not include any additional costs and expenses.
6.4 This prize will be offered only to the top scoring individual in the final.
6.5 The prize can only be shipped to a UK address.
6.6 Prizes will not be offered during the knockout stages to anybody.


7 Restrictions and requirements


7.1 Please note the following restrictions and requirements apply: you must be UK based, which means that you live and work in the UK.
7.2 Entries from outside the UK will be disqualified.
7.3 Employees of the promoter and their immediate families are ineligible to enter this promotion.


8 Notification of the results and receipt of the prize


8.1 The promoter will notify the winner by email on or before 1st December 2022. If a selected winner does not respond to the notification within 28 days, the prize will be forfeited and the promoter will select an alternative winner from the remaining eligible entries in accordance with the process described above (and that winner will also have 28 days to respond to their notification).
8.2 The winner will receive their prize on or before 20th January 2023.


9 Publicity and personal information


9.1 By entering this promotion, you agree to your personal information being used to process your entry, to contact you about your entry, and for the purpose outlined in clause 8.2 below. The promoter will use your personal information only in accordance with these terms and conditions and our Privacy Policy [click here to view our Privacy Policy].
9.2 The surname and county of the winner will be published at https://info.qa.com/scw-event for 1 month after the closing date.
9.3 If you do not want your surname and county included on the list of winners referred to above, please email marketing@qa.com prior to the closing date of the promotion.
9.4 You may be asked to participate in publicity relating to this promotion if you are selected as a winner.


10 General


10.1 This promotion is operated by QA Ltd, International House Third Floor, 1 St Katharine's Way, London, United Kingdom, E1W 1UN
10.2 Entrants acknowledge that copyright in submissions will be owned by the promoter. Entrants agree to assign to the promoter (by way of a written document, separate to these terms and conditions) all intellectual property rights in the submission with full title guarantee and to waive their moral rights in the submission.
10.3 While nothing in these terms and conditions will limit the promoter’s liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence or for fraud, the promoter will not be legally responsible to entrants or winners for any losses that were not foreseeable to the promoter or to the entrant at the time of entry to the promotion or which are caused by a third party.
10.4 The laws of England and Wales apply to these terms and conditions, although if you are resident elsewhere you will retain the benefit of any mandatory protections given to you by the laws of that country.
10.5 Any disputes will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. This means that you can choose whether to bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales or in the courts of another part of the UK in which you live.
